Year 9 Win Federation Football Final 2016!
Our year 9’s have capped their incredible season with an inspirational win over Merton in the federation cup final. The boys were deep in focus from the minute they arrived at Whyteleafe FC stadium, absorbed in things to come throughout an intense warm up. After conceding from a Merton free-kick, Beckenham responded in the only way they know how - displaying endeavour and true grit to score either side of half time to put us 2-1 ahead both goals from Jordan Ormsby. With the wind in their sails, Shakru Lumu scored to make it 3-1 to the good. Unfortunately a slight lapse of concentration allowed Merton back in the game 3-3, extra time beckoned.
After an intense period of extra time played at a ferocious tempo - Beckenham probed with conviction. With both teams in anticipation of the final whistle the referee instead blew for a foul. Before almost certainly the last kick of the game, cometh the man cometh the hour Joshua Ledwith stepped up and struck an audacious free kick from 40 yards into the top corner to win the game 4-3.
Credit to the team and to all the support that came, who on the day were unbelievable. Well done!
