HABE Hosts Its First Ever Rugby Tournament!
To kick off the tournament Harris Beckenham played Beckenham Club who had some very experienced players in their starting lineup. Harris Beckenham started extremely well defending their line superbly well against strong attacking threats. Kervell Bernard-Moore, Taylor Davies, Tegan Forrester, Gerald Qershija, Tony Ngounou and Elijah McCalla all made some outstanding tackles throughout the game. Harris Beckenham improved immensely in the next game against Langley Park with some fantastic runs from Albert Mcdaid, Joseph Fan and Alfie Burn. Harris Beckenham missed out on some very close opportunities to score and came away only having lost 10-0 to a very strong side. To finish the tournament Harris Beckenham came up against Edenham School who they had lost against heavily earlier in the season. It was clear that Harris Beckenham were improving as there were times in the match where they dominated at the breakdown and Edenham struggled to penetrate their defence. Although Harris Beckenham lost narrowly, Edenham went on to win the tournament. There were some great performances throughout the evening especially from Ben O’Hare and Theo Amoah both playing a year up. The two year 8 players that also stood out were Jake Bale and Will Thomas who have begun to form a great partnership at 9 and 10.
Although Harris Beckenham lost all three games, the boys had some outstanding performances and showed how much potential they now have as a team. Many supporters commented on how exciting and entertaining Harris Beckenham’s Rugby was to watch, and were surprised at how little experience they have had as a team. The tournament was a great way to finish an amazing first term of Rugby. A big thank you to all the parents and teachers who came along to support the boys. Another thank you must go to Beckenham Rugby Club for allowing us to use their facilities and the RFU for providing a trophy for the winning team.
We look forward to the New Year with lots of exciting fixtures lined up including Trinity School in Croydon. However before we break up for Christmas, the Rugby team, are off to Twickenham for the Oxford Vs Cambridge varsity match, and then they have the last fixture of the term against Robert Clack School kicking off at 3:30pm, on Monday 15th December.
