Cracking Cookery!
Year 8 have cracked it! They took on making Omelette’s this term, which tested their organisational skills with such a fast paced recipe, as this is a dish which can easily go wrong if one is not careful.
It was impressive to see them developing their new skills of using the hob safely and confidently, and the challenge of completing many recipe steps in sequence under time pressure. They had to organise their workspaces safely and cook and flip their delicate creations without breaking or spilling.
Unlike most Food Tech practical work, this classic French recipe was ‘pret a manger’ so they had the pleasure of tasting it immediately and evaluating in real time rather than retrospectively. They scored their omelette’s from ‘Eggcellent’ to ‘Eggregious’ and reflected on what could be improved. Many of the pupils made genuinely delicious and beautiful looking omelettes. The overall verdict? ‘Flipping Brilliant!’
