Reporting on our Successful 2014/15 Netball Season
All three teams; U12A, U12B and U13 worked relentlessly, training even though their hands were numb and until it was close to darkness at 4pm every Monday. Competitions included the Harris Federation tournament where both the U12A and U13 teams narrowly missed out on making it to the semi-finals, and over 20 fixtures between the three teams in the Bromley leagues.
Reciprocity runs deep in the Netball club and is a key reason for the continued and growing success it has had since 2012. The U13 team, along with Samantha Johnston, a year 9 GCSE student who is the squad's loyal coach and umpire, have guided and mentored the U12 girls. In return when the U13s were short of players, the U12 players were happy to step up and not just fill in, but to make a significant impact in the U13 fixtures. The hard work paid off: the U13 team placed a respectable 8th in their league; the U12B won the majority of their games and the U12A were able to achieve a phenomenal 3rd place in their league, beating well established teams such as Colfes!
A combination of all three of these teams have also just returned from the Malta Sports Tour where they played two Maltese teams. Both games were difficult as were against club sides, but with their one to one coaching with Marie Ewing, who represents Team Northumbria as WA/C in the Super League, their personal achievements were far greater than the final scores.
The 2015/16 season is set to be the most promising yet. This year we were able to establish a club link with regional standard Eclipse Netball Club with one of our U12A girls Lily Burns securing a place within their junior squad. Next year this club link will strengthen with more opportunities for the girls to train with the Eclipse coaches and try out for the club. Well done to all the girls who spent the cold and darkest months of the year braving the elements! Here’s to another year: practise, play, train, REPEAT!
